Groovy Baby!

Yesterday my son  asked me to make some "Hippie" cupcakes for a youth camp he was going to last night with the same theme.

I was so excited about the prospect of whipping up some more butter and icing and spent the next little while dreaming up all sorts of loud and obnoxious concoctions!!!

I finally came up withe the idea of  'tie dying' gumpaste daisies and using the same colours in a swirl of buttercream.

The children and I were so excited as we rolled and pummelled the gumpaste and made these gorgeous flowers. The colours were amazing.
Anyone who knows me and has seen my home will understand how wild I am about bright colours!!

After colouring the gumpaste,  I rolled them into long sausages.

Twisted them together.....

..and then folded them over.

                                                 This is the fun part.

The colours look so fantastic.

I am planning on doing this on a cake for my friend's 40th in a few weeks,
but I will use Satin Ice fondant instead of gumpaste.
I love the blend of colours.

Now it's time to cut out the daisies with the plunger cutters.

I use Americolor gels to colour the gumpaste.

Gotta love buttercream!

I put the four colours into disposable  icing bags and flattened them slightly.

Then I placed them carefully  into another bag with a Wilton 1M tip.

Let the fun begin!!

I sprayed the flowers with an edible pearl glaze to give them a shimmer!

                                                                  WOW!!

                                                           I LOVE these!!!
